The Sociopath

 Because Salamano is such an interesting and unique character, I just wanted to take a second to discuss his weird behaviors. Salamano is likely either a sociopath or autistic. Let me explain, the sociopath makes the most sense. Being a sociopath by definition means being a person with a personality disorder than manifests itself in extreme antisocial attitudes and behavior, as well as a lack of conscious. Salamano has shown all of these symptoms, especially the extreme antisocial behavior and lack of conscious. When he shot the Arab man, Salamano has no remorse or even regard for human life, acting as if the gun was shooting on its on. As for the antisocial behavior, in the beginning of the novel, Salamano sits on this balcony all day just people watching and talking to no one, completely content in sitting in complete silence for an entire day while most people would need to talk a bit at least. If Salamano is not a sociopath,  then he is likely has autism spectrum disorder, which would explain the antisocial behavior and odd characteristics, but nothing the lack of a conscious. So with this data I am making my claim that Salamano is a sociopath. Some would argue that he is a psychopath, but I beg to differ. If he was a psychopath, he would be performing his actions with deliberate maliciousness, but instead he does them with no emotion as if he has no ill intent behind it. That’s the end of my analysis, I hope we get to see more of sociopathic Salamano because I am really excited to see how his character is going to progress.
