Poetry comes in many forms. For a while I've though that poetry was only the old English sonnets with metaphors that are confusing and go way too far. But as I've been going through my own personal poetry journey, and as we've been going through poetry this semester, I have realized that a lot of things can be considered poetry. It doesn't need to be rhyming or have any particular structure, if its meaning to convey some experience or emotion through unconventional means, then it is most likely considered poetry.
To understand this next part, you're going to need a little more background on me. Whenever I tend to have very emotional moments or mental breakdowns, I turn to the notes app in my phone to spill all the things I could never tell another living soul. This isn't to show this to someone else one day or to even explain how I'm feeling, it's a poor attempt to purge my mind off all of the overwhelming thoughts.
As we began to learn more about poetry, I realized that I have been unintentionally writing poetry in my notes app. My thoughts are never complete sentences or fully planned out phrases, instead they're just fragments of my emotions. I've been my own armature poet, for a while now actually. Maybe I should choose myself for this poetry mentor assignment lol.
