The Continual Evolutuion of Humor
During our discussion of humor and satire in class this week, the topic of if humor is always at the expense of other people was brought up. I beg to differ. This led me down a rabbit hole about how humor has evolved over the years. When this argument was first being presented, I feel like it was though of during the era of slapstick comedy where the most hilarious things were people falling down the stairs and getting hit in the head. But with the growth of the internet and social media, humor has gotten more and more subjective and niche, playing more on shock and confusion factor than violence. Nowadays, memes are so abnormal and deep fried, but still some how hilarious. Some examples of these reaction memes can be found within this blog post. These memes are in no way at the expense of other people. I have no idea what you would classify them as, some would call them barely humor, but something about these confusing images makes me, and so many other teens, die laughing every time. For more wierd and confusing memes that will make you question the mental capacity of Gen-Z, check out the following Twitter account: https://twitter.com/reactionsmemes?s=21.
